History

For over 25 years people have asked me, "what does the "PT" stand for?" The responses you may have heard were, "Part Time," "Put & Take," "Partners in Trade," or "Partners in Transition." All of these in some way are part of the history of PT Sales. The cold hard truth is that in 1955, Phil Benn was the national sales manager of a manufacturer in Philadelphia, PA. He and his wife Teddy had just bought a new house and were expecting their first child. The factory workers went on strike. Phil approached the owner of the company and struck a deal for him to become the factory's representative for Pennsylvania, south Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

Please take a moment to think back on the highway and communicaton infrastructure over 50 years ago. The only highway was the PA turnpike, fax machines, cell phones email and the internet did not exist. After working at Sperry Univac and Xerox, I joined my dad and brother to run the family business in 1985. Since most of the manufacturers see Pennsylvania, south Jersey, Delaware as one territory and Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC as a separate territory, we split the company into two separate corporations in 1992. That is where PT Sales Inc. stands today.

See list on bottom-left for manufacturers we represent.
